"For its commitment to chemical-free, environmentally harmonious growing and contribution to local eating, Neva Hydroponic Farms has earned The Good Food Manitoba 2013 Producer of the Year Award from Ciao! magazine."
- "Ciao!" Magazine
Founded in 2001 and originally located along the Whitemouth River near the town of Elma, our name was inspired by a set of rapids that go by the name of "Neva Falls." Today, with over 15,000 square feet of greenhouse operations, Neva Farms is a family owned hydroponic farm located only minutes east of the city of Winnipeg.
Our commitments to ethical business practices and environmental stewardship means that all of the food grown at Neva Farms is free from harsh chemicals like pesticides and herbicides. Everything we grow is also Non-GMO. Each plant is seeded by hand by our team members who hail from towns and cities across Manitoba including; Winnipeg, Steinbach, Mitchell, Landmark and Ste. Anne. Living Lettuce, Microgreens & Basil are SUN-GROWN, hand-picked and then delivered fresh (within hours) to our customers in both local and national grocery, restaurant and hotel industries.
Hydroponics literally means “water working” but, in practical use, it means growing plants in a nutrient solution without soil.
It may come as a surprise that soil isn't actually required to grow strong, healthy plants. Although soil is a place where the plant roots traditionally live, soil is simply a holder for the nutrients, minerals and elements that contribute to the growth of a plant.
Growing your food hydroponically means that we are eliminating the soil - and by eliminating the soil we also eliminate soil borne diseases (like e-coli). The absence of soil also means the absence of weeds. Without weeds there is no need for herbicides and other harsh chemicals.
Growing food in a greenhouse also means that what you eat isn't exposed to contamination from pests, birds and other animals.
So it's easy to see why hydroponic plant production is a cleaner, healthier and safer alternative for your family!
